A National Centre for the Water Environment
 
Since opening in 1987, The Freshwater Centre has developed into a national centre for the aquatic environment and a meeting place for those who deal with environmental issues.

The centre provides a framework for an interdisciplinary milieu, comprising AQUA Freshwater Aquarium, private businesses, research institutions and a number of information activities in the field of aquatic environment.

AQUA in Silkeborg, Denmark, is a first class Activity and Adventure Centre with the largest freshwater aquarium of Northern Europe and a great nature park with various animals, as well as an extensive playground with much fun and variety. AQUA is an untraditional aquarium "turned upside down". The aquarium is built into several big outdoor lakes. Through large panoramic window panes you look deep into these lakes. Here you get very close to playful otters, ferocious pikes, hunting grebes - and a lot of other animals in their natural surroundings.
Apart from the park and the large aquarium lakes AQUA has a night aquarium, several thematic exhibitions, touch tank where you may touch the fish, specialized aquaria, cinema, and services for the schools with school rooms and laboratories.
Meet the zoo keepers of AQUA. Join them when they feed the animals, listen to them when they talk about the magic life of the Danish lakes and water streams. We have a daily activity programme including feeding of the animals.

With the aim of creating an interdisciplinary environment The Freshwater Centre lets office space primarily to businesses.

The Centre has developed into an important business park, comprising about 30 private companies, organizations and public authorities. A beautiful setting, the opportunity to meet business contacts in an interdisciplinary environment, along with a number of shared facilities are factors that encourage
companies to establish themselves at the Centre.

The beautiful old sanatorium building of ”Vejlsoehus” and a unique nature with lakes, streams and woodland creates the perfect and untraditional framework for meetings, conferences, courses, and parties of any kind.
